Insecurity or Insanity
There is evidence of several alarm systems in the house. These include professional systems (ADT and Sears), homemade apparatus, and even a couple of plastic, battery-operated bullfrogs directed at doors (The kids love these and have invented a game of slip past the frog to play with their friends). These photos are examples of the installations. The long board is mounted on hinges at the top and bottom of a half glass door that has been rendered opaque by a thin board. the hinges allow the board to flex and provide room for 2 pushbutton trigger mechanisms (the kind of thing that turns the lights on and off when the refrigerator door opens or closes). If someone tried to force the door open or broke the glass, the triggers would activate the alarm. There is another alarm trigger on the edge of the door. All these provide security for the exterior bathroom space: an area that has no access to the main house and included a primitive shower and a bucket commode. A lot of effort to control hygiene.

Welcome to the Pearl
We just closed on the property across the street and adjoining our waterfront. It was bought jointly with the families of my 2 sisters and will serve as winter quarters for our parents and guest quarters for summer visitors including the co-owners on home leave. We are all incredibly excited to have this cottage and waterfront in the family.
